The Adventure Begins - Eighth Grade Art Project
And so the new Adventure Begins.... The eighth graders contemplated and then drew their own self portraits. The idea was to draw a "minimalist" self portraits, simple and yet showing their individual personalities and traits. They used simple line sketch and zendoodle art to create a very modern effect. Their faces are drawn with black ink and then their hair has color and spontaneous pattern. Thank you Jodi Cagnina.

Kindergarten Art Project - Love All Around
This beautiful artwork was created using acrylic paint on canvas. It was finished with a high gloss coating and framed in a handsome black frame. We wanted the class to be able to work within a common theme but also wanted each child to be able to contribute individually. Each child painted a heart. The hearts were inspired by the love that the Kindergarteners have for their classmates, their teachers and for Our Lady of Fatima School. Thank you Jennifer Dremousis and Bre Reimely for coordinating this "lovely" project.

Thank you Joy Markow and Jenny Sandmeyer.

First Grade Art Project - Batik Illusion
With illusion as the inspiration, our First Grade artists used a modified Batik technique to create a spectral negative of an original kiddo inspired work. To execute the modified Batik technique, our creative little friends squeezed out a design onto a small linen quilt square using a bottle of gel glue. Once dry, a wash of watery acrylic paint was applied to the square and allowed to dry.The glue was removed and our children’s resist design persisted as a negative space. Batting was placed in the center of the muslin quilt square and the edges were sewn to finish the piece. Each unique square was affixed to a stretched canvas and professionally framed. Thank you to Heather Starbird for coordinating this project.

They Gave us Butterflies - Third Grade Art Project
The third graders cut out 3D paper butterflies using stencils to decorate a painted canvas creating a modern piece of art. The butterflies begin their journey together. As they swarm across the canvas, they are beginning to spread their wings. Just as large adult butterflies have brightly colored wings and conspicious, fluttering flight, this is symbolic of our third graders as they migrate towards the older grades as a class yet growing as individuals. Thank you Courtney Williams and Kat Kueber.

Chalk It Up - Sixth Grade Art Project
Mr. Verhoff's 6th Grade Class has put together this beautiful and functional artwork. A fully usable slate board and chalk ledge is surrounded by exquisite hand-drawn tiles made by each member of the class. The tiles, which are made of thick, archival artist's paper, are protected under a layer of plexiglass, so they will not stain or damage. The ink comes from precision markers that will not fade. Each tile is signed by the artist. The entire piece has exterior support and was framed, ready to hang in your kitchen or living room for the next two decades. Thank you Sean Beaudoin and Mike Albert.

Light Within - Fourth Grade Art Project
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross said, “People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” The Fourth Grade project is inspired by the 100 year anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima in Portugal in 1917. The stained glass is a replica of portions of the stained glass on the west side of our own Lady of Fatima sanctuary. Each student in the 4th grade class completed one of the 28 squares. The faux stained glass is made of clear glue, acrylic paint and glass edged with faux lead. This beautiful project would look stunning hanging on a wall or resting in front of a window, allowing light to shine through it. Thank you Courtney Rutkowski and Andrea Effgen.
